ABOUT US

Formed in 2003 by a group of activists bored with
normal street politics, the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army
(CIRCA) wanted to engage with social justice issues through radical playfulness and subversive silliness, and to bring more love, mischief and laughter to social  justice issues.

The Glasgow Kiss Brigade , a self-supporting affinity group was formed after a basic CIRCA training in preparation for the meeting of the G8 leaders at Gleneagles in 2005.

In local parlance a head-butt, we've reclaimed 'Glasgow Kiss' as a way of turning the world on its head and re-introducing, laughter and logic-defying cunning as well as fluff and custard to local and global politics, in Glasgow and beyond.

Indeed, the innocence and insanity of the clowns, when unleashed on the streets, not only reeks havoc and mischief but also can contaminates the General Public with the beautiful disease of imagination.

We rebel clowns, know that the world is already upside down. Rich and powerful clowns are in charge looking out for themselves only. And most of us spend most of our time chasing the carrot of consumerism; most of our everyday life is codified and commodified.

We want to turn the world on its head (the right way round!) and in so doing, we challenge hierarchies, conventions and taboos; common substance to many of the games we play. We aspire to re-introduce human qualities through our engagement with the ridiculous way in which our world runs.

Where there is boredom, we bring
excitement, where there is apathy, we bring the
tactics of silliness and fun-poking, where there is
greed and corruption, we hold up a fun-house mirror to
those in power, where there is oppression, we bring
love and laughter.
